TREASURE VALLEY ONIONS

The Malheur Experiment Station routinely conducts irrigation, storage, weed control, and variety research for onion production. Onions are a very important crop locally and all the information that the experiment station learns about onions is shared with local growers.

Recent work has included irrigation management for drip-irrigated onions, an evaluation of onion harvesting methods, post emergence weed control, and a multi-year trial to test over fifty different varieties of onions, supplied by 16 different companies. Onions from various trials are compared for yield, grade, harvest maturity, and storability.
