At this station the kids learned about the different types of plants that live in Riparian Areas (areas near lakes, streams, rivers and ponds).
The kids learned a key for remembering many of these plants:
The kids were then given a cutting from a poplar tree that they planted and took home. To plant a tree cutting like the one the kids were given, you first cut it off the tree. Then you cut the bottom, which will go into the soil, at a 45o angle. Put the end with the 45o down in the soil. Water it everyday and in about 1 month it will have roots and can be planted outside permanently.
