The Students examined examples of young weeds in pots as they discussed
some of the more common weeds in the Owyhee watershed. There were also
mature noxious weeds on display to educate the students, and then test
their
knowledge. The students also learned about the damage that weeds are
doing to
our region. Noxious weeds are spread
means of our clothing or vehicles.
We have many noxious weeds that have become invasive. These plants are
not native and are not helpful to our land.
Some examples are:
Buffalo bur
Bull
Thistle

Dalmatian Toad flax
Diffuse/spotted Knapweed

There are lots of different control methods:

19 insects have been introduced to control spotted and diffuse
Knapweed.
Some of these insects, like root weevil, show obvious effects. Some
others are more subtle since they attack seeds in formation. four
insects have taken hold of Knapweed in the Lewiston areas.
One genus with 5 species and 2 red-headed stem borers are working on
control of leafy
spurge.
You can get a pamphlet called "Selected Noxious Weeds of Eastern
